Brotavarden

På denne turen får du ein smakebit av det meste naturen her i Øygarden har å by på: kulturminne, lyngheier, barskog, løvskog, lune viker, steinur, bekker og utsikt i alle himmelretningar. Turen er variert og stadvis krevjande. Godt skotøy er viktig her. Start ved grendahuset på Kallestad. Dette ligg på venstre side kort tid etter avkøyrsle inn mot Kallestad. Følg bilvegen vidare rett fram til du kjem til Kjereidstivegen. Hald fram på traktorvegen. Vis omsyn til gardsbruket, Ha hunden i band. I enden av traktorvegen går du til høgre og tek av til stien til høgre omlag midt i svingen. Følg blå merker. Noko klyving i steinur ned mot både Kjereide og Brotet. Gå varsamt. Ved skilting Telavåg/Brotet går du retning Telavåg. I løvskogen er det skilta til høgre mot Brotavarden. Meir ope landskap her fram mot turmålet. Utsikt mot havet i vest og byfjella og Folgefonna i aust.

På Brotet var det fleire fangstbuer som tyskarane sprengte og brente for 75 år sidan. Brotet var ein av kastevågene der det vart brukt landnot til å fange makrell og sild.

Sotra Øygarden Turlag har laga Kystpasset som er eit turhefte med turar frå nord til sør i Øygarden. Her finn du mange flotte turopplevingar og løyper for store og små, med ulik vanskegrad. Det er ein fantastisk moglegheit til å bli kjend med nye områder i kommunen.

Sporløs ferdsel. Allemannsretten gir oss mange muligheter, men innebærer også plikt til å ta vare på naturen. Når du ferdes i naturen plikter du å ikke etterlate mer enn ditt eget fotavtrykk. Sporløs ferdsel innebærer å rydde opp, ta med søppel og å opptre varsomt og hensynsfullt der du ferdes.

On this trip, you will get a taste of most of what nature here in Øygarden has to offer: cultural heritage sites, heather moors, coniferous forests, deciduous forests, sheltered bays, boulder fields, streams, and views in all directions. The hike is varied and at times challenging. Good footwear is important here. Start at the community house in Kallestad, which is located on the left side shortly after the turnoff towards Kallestad. Follow the road straight ahead until you reach Kjereidstivegen. Continue on the tractor road, being mindful of the farm, and keep your dog on a leash. At the end of the tractor road, turn right and take the path to the right approximately halfway through the curve. Follow the blue markers. There is some scrambling over boulder fields down towards both Kjereide and Brotet, so proceed carefully. At the signpost for Telavåg/Brotet, head towards Telavåg. In the deciduous forest, there are signs directing you to the right towards Brotavarden. The landscape opens up more as you approach your hiking destination, with views of the sea to the west and the city mountains and Folgefonna to the east.

At Brotet, there were several trapping huts that the Germans blew up and burned 75 years ago. Brotet was one of the casting beaches where land nets were used to catch mackerel and herring.

DNT Øygarden has created Kystpasset, which is a hiking booklet with trails from north to south in Øygarden municipality. Here, you will find many wonderful hiking experiences and new routes for both young and old, with varying levels of difficulty. It is a fantastic opportunity to get to know new areas in the municipality.

Leave no trace

The right to roam gives us many opportunities but also comes with the responsibility to take care of nature. When you are in nature, you are obliged to leave no more than your own footprint. Leave no trace means cleaning up, taking your litter with you, and acting carefully and considerately wherever you go.
