Skogsøyna i Øygarden

Dette friluftsområdet har viker med fine badeviker og svaberg som ligg i ly for vind og vær frå nord og vest. Gode forhold for fiske og fortøying for båtar i søndre del av området. Utanfor Skogsøyna ligg det fleire holmar, sund, viker og grunne sjøområde.

Området har fleire fornminne og restar av gamle buplassar. Meir informasjon om fornminna på kulturminnesok.no. Toppen på Skogsøy heiter Skogstuo og er rekna for å vere ein av dei beste plassane for å observere fugl på trekk langs kysten nord for Bergen. 

Stien startar ved infotavla. Her beiter sauer, så hugs å lukke grinda. Ha hunden i band. Følg stien langs sundet, gjennom skogen og vidare utover mot havet. Nokre bratte parti etter skogen. Frå Skogsøytuva er det eit flott rundtskue. Hald god avstand, dønningene kan kome langt opp. Sør for varden har Bergen og Omland Friluftsråd ei dagsturhytte, Hildringsbu. Meir info på BOF sine sider. For en rundtur kan ein følge stien på austsida tilbake til Herdlevær. Fine bade- og teltplassar ved svaberget sør for varden og øst for Hildringsbu. 

Sotra Øygarden Turlag har laga Kystpasset som er eit turhefte med turar frå nord til sør i Øygarden kommune. Her finn du mange flotte turopplevingar og nye løyper for store og små, med ulik vanskelighetsgrad. Det er ein fantastisk moglegheit til å bli kjend med nye områder i kommunen.

Sporløs ferdsel. Allemannsretten gir oss mange muligheter, men innebærer også plikt til å ta vare på naturen. Når du ferdes i naturen plikter du å ikke etterlate mer enn ditt eget fotavtrykk. Sporløs ferdsel innebærer å rydde opp, ta med søppel og å opptre varsomt og hensynsfullt der du ferdes.

This outdoor recreation area has some fine bathing coves and smooth rock slopes sheltered from the wind and weather from the north and west. There are good conditions for fishing and for mooring boats in the southern part of the area. Outside Skogsøyna there are several small islands, inlets, coves and shallow sea areas. The area has a number of relics and remains of old settlements. The summit of Skogsøy is known as Skogstuo and is considered to be one of the best places along the coast north of Bergen for observing migrating birds.

The hike starts at the information board. Sheep graze here, so please remember to shut gates. Keep your dog on a lead. Follow the path along the inlet, through the forest and on towards the sea. There are some steep sections after the forest. There are superb all-round views from Skogsøytuva. Keep a good distance – the swell can come a long way up. South of the cairn, Bergen og Omland Friluftsråd (Bergen Outdoor Recreation Council) has a daytrip cabin, Hildringsbu.

For a circular hike, you can follow the path on the eastern side back to Herdlevær. There are excellent places to go for a swim or pitch a tent on the smooth rocky slopes south of the cairn and east of Hildringsbu.

The Sotra Øygarden Trekking Association has devised the ‘Coastal Passport’, which is a booklet featuring hikes from north to south in Øygarden Municipality. Here you will find many fabulous hiking experiences, with new trails for young and old alike and of varying degrees of difficulty. This is a fantastic opportunity to become familiar with new areas in the municipality.

Important things to know when hiking:

The Norwegian right to roam (Allemannsretten) gives us many opportunities, but also imposes a duty on us to look after the natural world. When out in nature, you undertake to leave nothing behind other than your own footprints. Leaving no trace is about cleaning up after yourself, taking all rubbish with you and behaving with care and consideration when you are among nature.

Getting there by car

From Bergen, follow national road (RV) 55 to the roundabout at Kolltveit. Here, turn right and follow the road towards Hellesøy. Immediately after Kvernapollen, take one of the main roads and turn left in the direction of Kollsnes. Parking is available along the roadside before the bridge to Herdlevær, or on a small gravel patch immediately after the bridge. There are few parking spaces, so car sharing is recommended.

From the bridge, it is around a 45-minute walk on a path to the outdoor recreational area and Skogsøytuva. Good footwear is required.
